Why does aligning your branding with each stage of the customer journey improve the customer experience?

86% of B2B buyers are willing to pay more for a better customer experience. And branding plays a key role in that experience at every touchpoint (Source: PwC, Future of CX 2023).

Aligning branding and the customer journey:

A successful customer experience depends on touchpoints that are consistent and aligned with your branding. From the first interaction to building customer loyalty, branding plays a key role in inspiring trust and retaining your customers.

Today, let’s explore together how to align your branding with each stage of the customer journey and identify concrete steps you can take to strengthen your brand every day.

Before we get to that, let's briefly recap the previous episodes.

So far, we have seen:

  • What Is Branding, and Why Is a Strong Brand Identity Crucial for a B2B SEM?
  • How to Lay the Groundwork with Consistent Visual and Verbal Elements
  • The Importance of LinkedIn for Your Branding and Brand Awareness
  • How AI Can Help You Boost Your Branding

But all of this has to be integrated into the customer experience to really make a difference.

The customer experience is the journey your customers take, from their first interaction with your brand to becoming loyal customers.

Branding is present at every step:

  • Before the purchase: Your website and social media channels should offer relevant content that addresses their concerns, reflects your values, builds credibility, and captures their attention.
  • During the purchase process: The way you express yourself in your emails or presentations should reassure and inspire confidence. A smooth and seamless purchasing process speaks volumes about how well-organized you are and about your credibility (for example, for SaaS subscriptions). Elements such as a well-presented quote, a clear proposal, or a seamless onboarding process should not be overlooked. They directly influence the perception of professionalism.
  • After the purchase: Even your invoices, customer service, and satisfaction surveys should reflect your brand identity.

Example: A SME in the medtech sector created a mini-series of welcome emails for new customers, featuring tutorial videos and direct contact. The result: a positive and professional impression, and measurable customer satisfaction starting in the first month.

Here's a quick hands-on exercise that will help you think about identifying touchpoints and improving the experience.

1/ Identify one or more touchpoints in your customer journey where your branding could be strengthened.

2/ For each one, list possible improvements to make the visitor's experience easier and more seamless.

For example, for the following points of contact:

  • Your website: Can visitors easily find all the information about your company, your strengths, and your products/services? Is there an FAQ section that addresses the most frequently asked questions? Is it easy to contact your customer service department or request information? etc.
  • Your sales department: Through which channels do you receive inquiries? Are all inquiries processed, and if so, how? How long does it take to respond?

Your customers experience your brand with every interaction. Your credibility is on the line, right from the start.
